Omega III, H. Koon, SOLD
Omega lll Deluxe Sporting Rifles have a 24" barrel, all metal matte finish, 4 round rotary magazine well, jeweled octagonal bolt with square locking lugs, with the shortest bolt lift in the industry. These actions are extremely strong. The trigger is adjustable for both let off and creep with a shotgun type safety located at the rear of the trigger guard. Most Omega III rifles have a highly figured American Walnut two piece stock, gloss finish with rosewood forend tip and fancy sterling silver grip cap. There were several different stock types as each rifle was custom built for the buyer. The Omega rifles were manufactured by Homer Koon in Flower Mound, Texas, in the early to mid 1970’s. The design was then sold to High Shear who made some slight alterations to make it less expensive and easier to produce and allow for a price point to compete with the Colt Sauer and Weatherby. All known High Shears that had been produced were thought to be purchased back and destroyed. There are only three known to still exist today and two of the three are in museums. There a few more High Shears models that are thought to exist but the number of them is unknown. Approximately 1000 rifles were produced in Flower Mound, Texas. These rifles are extremely attractive and superbly accurate and weigh approximately 7 ½ lbs.
